Why Scottsdale
Scottsdale sits against the Sonoran Desert on the eastern edge of the Phoenix metro. Mornings are for trailheads and saguaros, afternoons for pools and galleries, evenings for patios under a warm sky. It is compact enough to know in a weekend and close enough to Sedona and the Grand Canyon to make a road trip of it. Bring good shoes and a sense of space.
What to see
A mix of desert, art, and easy wins. Pick a few and string them together.

The two signature summit hikes near town. Camelback is a steep classic; Pinnacle Peak is a friendlier out-and-back with big views. Go at dawn, carry water, and check the forecast first.

Scottsdale is a spa town. Book a day pass, float in a pool with a mountain view, and slow down. It is the easiest way to feel like you are somewhere far away.

When to come
The desert rewards the right season. Here is the short version.
Nov–Mar
Warm days, cool nights, blue skies. The best window for hiking, patios, and spring training. Book early; the whole world has the same idea.
Apr & Oct
Still gorgeous, a little warmer, and easier on the calendar. Great for golf, day trips, and quieter trails.
May–Sep
Hot and bright. Plan mornings outdoors, afternoons by the pool, and lean on air-conditioned drives between the two.
Day trips
Some of Arizona's best sits within a morning's drive. A quiet electric car makes the miles easy.
2 hrs
Red-rock canyons, vortex trails, and art in the pines. The drive up through the high desert is half the trip.
3.5 hrs
One of the great sights on earth, and a very doable long day from Scottsdale. Leave at dawn, watch the light move across the South Rim.
1 hr
Rugged desert peaks and the Apache Trail east of the city. Lost-gold legends, ghost towns, and wide-open views.
